School-Based Services
For the past 10 years, Gary has been providing school-based intervention, prevention, and education services to public schools in Marin County. In coordination with school administration, counseling, and therapeutic staff, he works to develop appropriate programs based on student population need. This includes developing a group schedule, meeting individually with high risk clients, and providing support at parent education nights. The goal is to reduce student substance use, increase access to resources and support, and create awareness around healthy coping skills and negative consequences of substance abuse. With these services, schools and students receive:
- Assessment of individual students who have been identified as high risk for substance use issues
- Psychoeducation, recovery, and relapse prevention groups facilitated on campus
- Individual counseling services provided to identified students
- Parent information and education nights
- Staff training around substance use trends and how to identify a student who is emotionally decompensating
